>GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR WARDROBE: 1 DRESS 3 WAYS

>

How many times have you purchased an item that you just had to have and as the months go by you realize that you’ve only worn it once? I have to raise my hand and say, I’ve been an offender of this myself. As I said in a previous post, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to get more out of my wardrobe by mixing and matching what I already own.
I scored this cobalt blue ruffled sleeve dress from ASOS and challenged myself to make it work in at least three ways. I’m a big believer in making your wardrobe work double duty and I feel like I’ve become sort of a pro at doing that. One of the best ways to get mileage out of your wardrobe is with accessories. Belts, earrings, bracelets, and statement necklaces can make a world of difference in an outfit.
Below are three ways that I’m utilizing accessories to get the most out of my LBD (Little Blue Dress).
Dressy Casual
For this look a statement belt and earrings are all I needed to punch up this simple yet chic dress.

 An Evening Out

A swap of a belt makes a difference.
A great way to get mileage out your dresses is to start wearing them as tops. For this look, I didn’t just want to choose a plain old black belt, I wanted to play with a light color to contrast against the blues. I chose this natural colored wide belt and a pencil sequin skirt for a nighttime look.  I finished the look off with black chandelier earrings, and a multi crystal bracelet to make this look work for evening,

It’s no secret that a blazer is a transforming piece. I chose this natural color blazer, a tassel necklace, and a pair of men’s style lace up pumps to wear this dress to work.

>ALISSA’S LIFE: WEEKEND WITH FAMILY

>

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
This weekend I spent a little time with my family. We were celebrating the life of one of my cousins who past away 10 years ago. I had so much fun visiting with everyone and it just reminded me how important family is.

This is my favorite snapshot of the night. It makes me want to sing the Sister Sledge family reunion classic. “We are family, I got all my sisters with me.”

Me along with my sister on the left and my cousins in the red dresses. I wore my colored animal print H&M dress it’s the same one from an ootd I did lst month. you can check it out HERE

Remember the good times with your family and remember that you’re family

>WEEKEND STYLE: CARDIGAN CHIC

>

This weekend I wanted to keep things casual but still look put together. I decided to pull out my Calvin Klein waterfall animal print cardigan that I got on sale at Lord and Taylor last week. The cardigan is actually a little too big but it’s nothing that a belt couldn’t fix. I layered a black turtleneck under it so that I would stay warm. As I said last year, Calvin Klein’s fall 2010 collection was one of my favorites. It was perfect cuts and prints that any curvy girl would want to wear young or mature.

The cardigan is very versatile. It looks just as good open as it does closed. I will be wearing it to work this week over one of my dresses.

I am a crazy earring fanatic. I love big earrings or earrings with unique detail. I scored these earrings at Strawberry’s and I love the onyx stone and the draped chains around it.

>THE PICTURE THAT WAS WAITING FOR ME

>

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
I just wanted to share with you my new picture that I got from Century 21 this week. I kind of feel like this picture was waiting for me because it was the only one of its kind left. I was walking back and forth past it, just looking at it. I then saw the sign that said $19.99, but I wasn’t sure if it was for this painting or the other 5 paintings around it. I asked the sales woman and she said, “yup, this one is $19.95.” I said, “I’ll take it,” with a big kool-aid smile.

Just looking at this picture inspires me to be and live fabulously.

>AT THE OFFICE: COBALT BLUE AND BLACK

>

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Well, it’s another day at the office and I decided to wear one of my fave colors today, cobalt blue. I figured the bright color would keep me energized for the day since it’s so busy. My co-workers always get excited when I ask them to take pics of me in the office for my blog. Sometimes I get a little stinky with them when I want them to act like it’s a photo shoot. They always look at me like, Alissa, please, we are at work not a photography studio. LOL! It’s hump day so, the week’s almost over.

>GRAY AND CLOUDY DAYS PLEASE GO AWAY!

>

It’s still cloudy and snowy in NYC and I’m ready to scream. Winter is definitely not my season. It’s amazing how weather can really affect your mood. Sometimes when the weather is groggy, cold, and uninspiring I began to feel the same way. The only thing that makes me feel happy or that sunny days are ahead is when I look at bright colors. That’s why I always buy outerwear accessories in bright colors. From gloves to hats. I love my bright blue leather gloves because they remind me of the old school candy “Now and Later.” Don’t ask me why, but they just do. This year I have become a fan of turbans and I found this super cute pink turban from ASOS.

This year I have become a fan of turbans and I found this super cute pink turban from ASOS.

Just looking at the pink turban and blue gloves changes my gray groggy winter mood to a happy one. Speaking of gray, I scored the gray coat that I’ve been eyeing from ASOS for awhile. I find it difficult sometimes to judge how ASOS clothes will fit because the clothes just hang on their models. So, I wasn’t sure how the coat was going to fit. I wanted a gray coat this winter because I wanted to break up my collection of brightly colored coats. Sometimes a girl just needs a simple coat with great details. What drew me to this coat was details like the structured puffed shoulder, funnel neck collar, and twin epaulettes.

I do love the warmth of the coat and how the funnel neck collar swallows you up like a warm blanket. I’ll admit that the double breasted silhouette does make my boobs look bigger, but, I’m okay with that because news flash, I have big boobs. I also like that the bottom of the coat flares out and creates a slight pleated effect from behind.

Well, I think I’m done complaining about the winter for now, so, I hope you guys are having a great day and staying warm and stylish in this crazy weather.

>PURPLE AND GRAY FOR CLOUDY DAYS

>

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of this snow. I can brave the cold  weather but the snow just drives me nuts, mainly because I can’t wear my heels. Like everyone else, I’ve made a few fashion New Years resolutions and one of mine is to only buy pieces that I can wear with what I already have in my closet. I’m a person who doesn’t buy outfits all at once. I tend to buy one or two items that don’t really go with each other or with what I already own. This causes a problem because I often feel like nothing I own goes together.

One of the pieces that I wanted to get more mileage out of is my stretch cotton biker jacket that I got from Old Navy last fall. I love this jacket but, I’ve only worn it once or twice. Last week I visited Faith21 in Times Square and I found this cute little floral gray and purple ruffle skirt. It is a little springish, but, tights and boots make it ready for winter. The jacket is light weight so I had no  problem wearing my winter coat over it and it didn’t feel bulky.

Once the spring and summer hit, this floral skirt will be worn with sky high sandals and colorful tops.

Hope you guys are enjoying your MLK holiday.
