CURVY GIRLS WILL ALWAYS HAVE HATERS

Curvy girl hater alert!

Hey curvy girls,
For every successful moment, there is a hater waiting in the wings to tear down your achievements.

According to Stylelist.com french fashion blogger Garance Dore says the current plus size craze is a gimmick and plus size women are unhealthy.

Here’s what she told the Australian Associated Press:
“I think it’s too much and almost naive of the fashion industry, because it would be nice in a few years that the idea of different body shapes is normal, but right now it’s not quite there yet,” she reportedly said.
“It should not be such a big deal to show women with different bodies, but sometimes it’s treated like a bit of joke, or for shock, like the plus-size models on the runway in the UK fashion week.”

“It’s not such a good thing to show plus-size because it’s not really physically healthy and not always flattering to fashion,” she sniffed.

What I Have To Say:
Here we go again. I guess she forgot to add M.D. to the end of her name, because, she must be a doctor in order to determine if a plus size woman is physically healthy or unhealthy. I think it is a big deal to show different bodies because that’s what the world is made up of. Everyone is not rail thin or even curvy. Women come in all shapes in sizes and I think fashion is finally starting to recognize that. Fashion has shown unrealistic bodies for years, so, yes it is a shock when magazines like French Elle, Vogue and V take the time and money to put the spotlight on plus size. We live in this world too. We shop and buy fashion magazines too. Our money is just as good as our slimmer counterparts, why wouldn’t the fashion world be crazy about us.
I think she may be a little upset that the walking hanger, no, excuse me, heroine chic movement is over.

Let’s just get used to it curvy girls, we will always have haters.

What are your thoughts on her comments about curvy girls?

  1. *2 snaps and around* Tell us how you really feel! You are so right though. There is always going to be ignorant people ready to tear down what doesn’t look like them. Not everyone desires to be rail thin. If you don’t start now to remove the stigma behind being curvy or plus size then when? Some people talk some real rubbish.

  2. I agree w/ stylishous. I have to admit I used to think in the past that people who are plus size are unhealthy and fat; however now I don’t believe everyone is unhealthy. Don’t get me wrong when you are fat you just fat but it doesn’t mean every plus size women is fat, unhealthy or physically out shape. Women come in all different sizes and shapes. Now a days plus size women are more physically fit and healthier then skinny girls. The key is to live a healthy life at any size. As woman of color we glorify our curves which is great but we need to glorify a healthy lifestyle as well.

  3. I agree with all of you ladies but would just add that the push for more realistic representation of women in fashion does not and will not diminish the industry. it will inspire more designers to expand their size scope or encourage more designers who specialize in plus sizes, more plus sized models, and everything else that comes with the industry. simply put, the industry will experience huge growth (pun intended). maybe her issue really lies in the fact that she won’t know how to handle all of her new competition. hmmm.
